Pakistan has been trying to land a spot on the international fashion scene since 2007. Its first planned event was derailed by a terrorist bombing and the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, while the 2009 event was delayed after militants attacked a military base in Islamabad days before the shows were scheduled to begin.
