Though recycling has come a long way, there is still much potential remaining. According to the EPA, only one-third of municipal solid waste was recycled in 2007. The only category that approaches a 100% rate is auto batteries. Only half the paper and a little more than one-third of the soda bottles used by consumers are recycled.
