When television stations stopped broadcasting their analog signals in June 2009, American cities and states warned consumers of the dangers of dumping their old TVs in the trash. Companies like E Recycling in Hayward, California, above, specialize in harvesting the materials used to make televisions and other e-waste. In a typical year, they recycle 10 million pounds of cathode ray tube glass and 450,000 pounds of copper wire.
