In 1961, Slesinger's wife sold Winnie's rights to the Walt Disney Co., which also arranged certain permissions from Milne's heirs. Since that time, Pooh has largely been controlled by Disney, which has turned the bear into the international icon we know today. At first Disney made short animation features like Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day, above, a 25-minute short released in 1968, but over the years it has accelerated its output, producing numerous feature-length films and television shows.
