Home Instead: The Business of Granny Care
Andreas Seibert for TIME
Companion
The idea behind Home Instead's business is relatively simple: place a caregiver usually a female between 55 and 60 in the home of an elderly man or woman to help with basic household tasks. The idea works in almost any society and has been franchised in 15 countries around the world, including Japan, above, where Tomita Natsuko, 64, cleans the bedroom of Iwase San, at the senior woman's apartment in Osaka.
