The Park's Other Inhabitants
Sheep were a common sight in Central Park until the 1930s, particularly on one open stretch of land, later appropriately dubbed Sheep's Meadow. The presence of the farm animals harks back to the state of the land prior to the park's creation, which was characterized largely by shanties and an abundance of free-roaming animals.
