The law finally caught up to Dillinger in Chicago on July 21, 1934, after Purvis and his men were tipped that the gangster was planning on seeing Manhattan Melodrama with Clark Gable. Because the tipster knew only the name of the movie and not the theater, the FBI was forced to stake out two locations. Dillinger ultimately showed up at the Biograph, above, where he was killed in a shootout as he exited with his date.
