An ICRC delegate talks with a wounded Vietnamese prisoner who is about to be released during the French Indochina War in 1954. On July 21 little more than a month after this photograph was taken the Geneva Conference made a provisional division of Vietnam, with control of the north given to the Viet Minh as the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and the south becoming the State of Vietnam.
