Soul Train, 1971
Stevie Wonder (below), the Jackson Five, Gladys Knight, Earth, Wind and Fire — all appeared on Soul Train, Don Cornelius' long-lasting music show. And while Cornelius handed the show to a rotating cast of hosts in the 1990s (including a young Jamie Foxx and Tyra Banks), he kept the show chugging along until 2006. Offering a window onto black music and fashion for white America, the show's legacy is also secure in the sheer number of Soul Train lines still to be found at weddings across the land.
