A Long Overdue Revamping
In 2007, The Greenbrier underwent a $50 million renovation to attract a younger, more cosmopolitan crowd. The makeover included wireless Internet, flat-screen TVs, a trendy cocktail lounge (above) and a high-end gourmet restaurant. Even so, Mobil's Travel Guide still hasn't reinstated its highly coveted fifth star, which The Greenbrier lost in 2000. Hotel giant Marriott International Inc. has announced plans to purchase the property for less than $130 million, adding that they plan to retain the name.
