An American Affair
Early Irish immigrants brought St. Patrick reverie with them to America. The
first recorded St. Patrick's Day parade was held not in Ireland, but in
Boston, in 1737. New York City (above) was the second city to embrace the
annual march, beginning its parade tradition in 1762.
