Solo Career
After the breakup, Lewis's career continued to flourish. In 1956, he famously filled in for Judy Garland at a show in Las Vegas when the singer came down with a case of laryngitis. Taking the stage without any prepared material, he delighted the audience with his improvisations and was so well received that it took him a very long time to bow off the floor.
