"When food was scarce, dogs roamed the streets because people couldn't afford to feed them. I would walk around with a backpack full of dog food — a homemade mix of SPAM style meat — and feed them. I had people scolding me for 'wasting food'. But the dogs were totally innocent. It wasn't their fault."
