Though much of Khomeini's stricter dictates are no longer enforced, Iran is still guided by the theocratic constitution he introduced. The President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, above, enjoys more power than he might have in Khomeini's day, yet he remains officially subservient to the Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, who retains the power to appoint the commanders of the armed forces and the members of national security councils, amongst other posts.
