Once in control, Khomeini set about establishing Islamic law. Amongst the things he banned were: alcoholic beverages, mixed swimming, coedecuational classes in elementary and high schools and most Western films and television shows. His decision to mandate that all women be clothed in the traditional chador sparked mass demonstrations by women in Tehran.
