The Struggle Continues
After the murders of King and Malcolm X, the fight for black equality was left without a visible, national leader. Still, small battles were waged with varying degrees of success. In Boston in 1974, a judge ordered that bussing be used to end segregation in the city schools. The decision aroused fierce criticism among some Boston residents; many of the busses were escorted by police officers as they executed the court's order.
