Life Returns to Iraq's Streets

Pleasures
A store in the Kadhamiya District offers perfumes and sexy women's underwear, a radical departure from the days when the Mahdi Army was in control of the neighborhood. The Mahdis imposed a harshly puritanical interpretation of Islam on the residents, requiring women to wear the form-obscuring black cloaks known as "abayas". Today, this store offers its provocative wares just a stone's throw from the great shrine of Imam Kadhim.
