Several Temple members survived the suicide. In addition to Odell Rhodes, Hyacinth Thrash, 84 (left, above), and Grover Davis, 79, were spared. Davis, who was hearing-impaired, missed the announcement over the loudspeaker to assemble; Thrash slept through the whole thing. Another man, Stanley Clayton, tricked security guards and ran into the jungle.
