Emissary: Elena Kondakova
In 1997, Cosmonaut Kondakova became the first Russian female to fly aboard an American space shuttle. Prior to that, during her first trip to the Mir space station, she was part of the crew that greeted Norm Thagard, the first American to board a Russian space vehicle.
