March 20, 1995: Sarin Gas released in Tokyo subway

Apparently in an attempt to bring his prophecies to fruition, including one that said apocalypse would come with poison gas clouds, Asahara's followers released lethal sarin in the Tokyo subway, part of an even larger plot. Twelve people died and thousands were made ill. After denying responsibility, Asahara fled, was captured and eventually sentenced to death.
