April 19, 1993: The compound burns in Waco, Tx.

Law enforcement authorities planned a raid on Koresh's compound because they believed he was making illegal weapons there. But the raid was botched and turned into a siege. An attempt to bulldoze the cult into submission turned into a firefight and then a conflagration when the Branch Davidians set all they had on fire. Nearly 80 died, including about 20 children. Koresh perished.
