Carcasses of culled domestic fowl burn near the village of Rovnoye in the Crimean peninsula, some 500 miles (800 km) south of Kiev. After being kept under control for two years, a new outbreak of H5N1 struck Ukraine when 153 birds died suddenly at a private farm where more than 25,000 poultry were kept.
