After dropping out of sight for over ten years, Fischer reappeared in Japan in 2005 (above), where he was arrested for using a revoked U.S. passport. Fischer was wanted by the American authorities in connection with the match in Yugoslavia. The matter was resolved when Fischer renounced his U.S. citizenship. Iceland agreed to give him political asylum.
