The Great Matilda Camel Races are held annually at Charleville in Outback Queensland. It's one of the smaller meets on the camel-racing circuit and has a real local flavor. Notoriously unpredictable, the camels are just as likely to jump the fence and throw their rider as they are to cross the finish line. I took this as well-known jockey Brett Scott crossed the finish line on an old camel named Whipstick Billy.
