Mummified Cat
Projects manager Annette Welkamp holds up a mummified cat from around 250 B.C. which had been used as an offering to the goddess Bastet. As the main feline deity, Bastet was strongly revered as the patron of cats. Dead cats were brought for burial at the temple at Per-Bast, where over 3,000 mummified ones have been excavated.
