Philip Johnson's Glass House
Paul Warchol
In 1986 Johnson willed the Glass House and its surroundings to the National Trust. The last building he designed for the site was this visitor center, completed in 1995, which holds a seating area and small lecture hall. By that time Johnson was heavily influenced by the irregular forms and warping lines of architects like Frank Gehry, Peter Eisenman and Zaha Hadid. He called the building "Da Monsta," because it seemed to him to be alive.
