Philip Johnson Glass House
Paul Warchol

Johnson designed other buildings on his property, each a reflection of some new development in his architectural thinking. He was interested in ways that modern architecture could reference the past without imitating it. In 1965 he built an underground Painting Gallery with a red sandstone entryway, modeled after a Mycenean tomb built around 1250 B.C.
