Dec. 28, 2006: With the mainland booming, Hong Kong's economy surges: 13 years after passing 10,000, the Hang Seng Index hits 20,000 points for the first time. In a sign of Hong Kong's — and China's — growing economic health, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) launches the largest initial public offering in history on the Hong Kong and Shanghai stock markets, ultimately raising $22 billion and making it the world's largest non-U.S. bank by market value.
