Bloomberg News: Business Success
After leaving Salomon Brothers in 1981, Bloomberg approached Merrill Lynch with a proposal to develop an in-house information system similar to the one he created for Solomon Brothers. The "Bloomberg" system allowed traders to analyze the bond-trading data in a timely manner and quickly grew as a business, as Merrill Lynch put up $30 million to launch Bloomberg Financial Markets, renamed in 1986 to Bloomberg L.P. By 1995, the services of the company were syndicated with 35 radio stations and 188 television outlet and could be found on 46,000 desks worldwide.
