M. Night Shyamalan is an Oscar-nominated director best known for his use of twist endings. Born Manoj Nelliyattu Shyamalan in Pondicherry, India, the young Shyamalan and his family immigrated to the affluent Philadelphia suburb of Penn Valley soon after his birth. He would not become a "Night" until college at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts when he decided to make his nickname a permanent part of his name.
