In Witness, Ford plays John Book, a Philadelphia detective investigating the murder of a fellow officer. When the sole witness, a young Amish boy, implicates a policeman, Book has to protect the boy as he unravels a web of official corruption. Critics were impressed by Ford's newly displayed range, and he was nominated for an Oscar.
