In the Beginning
As Hawk developed, so, too did the sport of skateboarding. In the late 1970's, when many city-operated skate parks were forced to close their doors, skateboarders turned to the streets, where they cultivated an underground attitude and adapted their routines to new landscapes. By 1987, when this photo was taken, the moves that Hawk had developed and perfected had become standards for the sport.
