It was not until 1999 when McGregor became a global superstar, as George Lucas cast him as the young Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. Though his character is oftentimes overshadowed by the film's pyrotechnics, critics praised McGregor, right, for the uncanny way he echoed Sir Alec Guinness' original rendering of the elderly Kenobi.
