The only child of a Lebanese man and a Colombian woman, Shakira was born in Barranquilla, Colombia. A precocious child, Shakira (above in 2000) knew from a young age that she was destined to be on the stage. At age 5, while in a Middle Eastern restaurant, she heard belly-dancing music and, unable to resist, hopped onto a table and began dancing to the cheers of other diners.
