In the 2006 midterm elections, the Democratic Party, under the leadership of Pelosi, Congressman Rahm Emmanuel (to her left) and Senators Charles Schumer (right) and Harry Reid, took control of the House and pulled even with the Republicans in the Senate, giving the party its first majorities since the "Republican Revolution" of 1994.
