Music: Colour Moving And Still

Chantal Kreviazuk

Earlier this year Canadian singer-songwriter-pianist Kreviazuk bested Celine Dion and Alanis Morissette to win the award for Female Artist of the Year at the Junos, the Canadian equivalent of the Grammys. Given that Americans tend to follow the Junos about as closely as they follow the Grey Cup, Kreviazuk's big win caused nary a ripple in the States. However, her latest CD, just released in the U.S., does merit attention. Her songs are often confessional in tone, but she never lets emotion overwhelm her melodies. She certainly deserves to be more than Canada's secret.
