Cliche Watch

SO FIVE MINUTES AGO Barely two months old, the millennium year has spawned its first cliche: "That's so 20th century." It's turned up in print ads for Compaq, office.com and Nextel. American Express has used the expression in TV spots for its Blue card, as has Whoopi Goldberg for Flooz.com Reporters have deployed it to declare pashmina, personalized license plates and Fendi baguettes passe. With luck, it'll be retired when we really leave the 20th century--in 2001.
