The report on Bill Gates and his future plans was a good read [COVER STORIES, June 5], but you were much too quick to cave in to the infernal whining of Microsoft's competitors. What these companies refuse to see is their own ineptitude. Back in the 1980s, the personal-computer industry needed a standard operating system in order for its growth to continue.
