Curtis Mayfield helped shape rock and soul in the 1960s and ’70s with such hits as Superfly. But in 1990 he was paralyzed in an accident. Now a lineup of musicians he influenced, including Rod Stewart and Eric Clapton, have made All Men are Brothers, an album of Mayfield hits. Royalties will go directly to Mayfield.
Rapper Hammer is back with a new image and a new album, The Funky Headhunter. Chucking Las Vegas-style productions, he’s into baggy jeans and a muscular street sound, hoping to hop on the gangsta-rap bandwagon.
