In the National Hockey League, where violence is routine, the cheap shot that Washington Capitals center Dale Hunter put on New York Islander Pierre Turgeon bordered on the criminal. After scoring the Islanders’ winning goal, Turgeon skated away in unguarded celebration. But Hunter stalked the unsuspecting Islander high scorer half the width of the rink, blindsiding him with a vicious check that separated his shoulder and sidelined him for the rest of the play-offs. Hunter will pay for his revenge: a 21-game suspension next season and $150,000 docked from his salary.
