In 1978 Bob Crane, the star of TV's Hogan's Heroes, was bludgeoned to death in his bed in Scottsdale, Ariz. The crime remained unsolved for 14 years, until investigators re-examined a thread of brain tissue found in a rental car. Last week they arrested John Henry Carpenter, a video-equipment salesman, and charged him with the murder, which he denies. Forensic scientists matched the tissue with a sample from Crane's bloody pillowcase. Complained Carpenter's attorney: "How the flesh sample was overlooked for 14 years is beyond me."
