Conservatives, charging that public broadcasting is too liberal and too lewd, fought to freeze the budget of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. But last week the Senate repelled their efforts, voting 75 to 22 to raise funding from the current level of $825 million to $1.1 billion from 1994 to 1996, with no significant editorial strings attached.
