In the Nightmare on Elm Street horror movies, no one has ever succeeded in killing off the fiendish Freddy Krueger, who mutilates and murders teenagers in their sleep. But in toyland, Freddy has been given the ax. Last week Matchbox Toys acknowledged that it had halted production of its 17-in. talking Freddy doll. The company was bowing to pressure from the archconservative Rev. Donald Wildmon, who called for a boycott of stores selling the toy.
