In Chicago, where habits taught by the Daley machine die hard, some citizens complained that paper ballots in one precinct were being deposited in a garbage can because there were no proper boxes. In another precinct, the election supervisor was reported to be reading ballots before putting them in the box. At yet another polling place, Police Officer James Jablonski reported, precinct officials consulted a list of names and repeatedly cast ballots.
