Darryl Zanuck’s The Longest Day has been running for more than 14 months, and it appears to be the biggest moneymaking black-and-white picture in history. Its worldwide gross was $25,275,000 in its first year; and by last week the figure had climbed to more than $27 million. The film’s original cost was $10 million.
