As heiress to a breakfast-cereal fortune and founder of the General Foods empire, Mrs.Post reigned for most of her years as the grande dame of American high society and regal mistress of a life-style evocative of the lost opulence of Victorian empires. Last week, at her Georgian estate in Washington, D.C., Marjorie Post died quietly of a heart attack at age 86, and with her death a gilt-edged volume of American history came to an end.
