Nation: Where do we get the money?

While many of the plans and programs discussed in the preceding section require nothing more than a change of mind—admittedly, not always an easy thing—others require substantial sums of money. The total might amount to a possible $30 billion, obviously an unrealistic sum in the next two or three years. Even if priorities are worked out, the question remains: where is the money to come from? Can the U.S. afford it?
