The U.S. Consumer Price Index rose 0.3% in July, to a 1955 high of 114.7. The index stood exactly halfway between the high (115.2) and the low (114.2) for the last 21 months. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported average weekly take-home pay up $3.84 (to $69.84) over a year ago (see BUSINESS).
