Illinois last week became the third state where Democrats would not have to worry about Henry Wallace's Progressive Party.* By unanimous vote, Illinois' bipartisan electoral board refused the Progressives a place on the state-wide ballot in November. Reason: just like any other political machine, the Progressives had filed faulty nominating petitions, had carelessly included too many names from the cemetery, not enough valid signatures.
*The other two: Oklahoma and Florida. So far the Progressives have been legally certified in 15 states, have applications pending in ten, have yet to file in 20.
