After 134 years, the U.S. paid the last installment on the bill for the War of 1812. Esther Ann Hill Morgan, 88, daughter of a soldier who fought in the Battle of New Orleans, and the last U.S. citizen eligible for an 1812 pension, died last week in Independence, Ore.
